Spiced Chai Latte

Serves 4 cups
Chai, an East Indian word for tea, and latte, Italian for milk, blend together with aromatic spices for a flavorful, exotic beverage that tastes of spice cake. Boys and men appreciate this satisfying pick-me-up both morning and afternoon.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons black tea
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise (or other aromatic spice)
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, or 1/2-inch piece of vanilla bean
  • 1 tablespoon natural sugar or honey
  • 1/4 cup hot milk

DIRECTIONS

  1. Put the tea, cloves, star anise, and cinnamon stick in a teapot or heatproof pitcher. Add the boiling water and let steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Strain the tea into 4 cups. Stir in the sweetener and hot milk and serve.
