Recipes from Today’s Show: Southern Cooking
TODAY on MHTV: I love hearty Southern food and my longtime friend and colleague, Sarah, is here to create some of our down-home favorites. First, we whip up a pitcher of spearmint juleps, allowing the mint to steep in the bourbon. For flavorful fried chicken without all the fat and mess, I’m making mine in the oven. More from the show.

Sarah Carey always seems dull. This is especially true when she is 1-on-1 with Lucinda, who is always so happy and positive. My guess is that she is as wonderful as she is talented in the food department, but maybe she needs some coaching on her on-air charisma (lack of) so it shows a bit more.
I watch every day! Love your show.
I can’t wait to try the chicken and the pimento spread.I had to mute half the show because Sarah was giving me a headache!! She’s so controlling, you could tell she wanted to be the center of the show. ugghhhh
You have a great cooking show. I learn something from you each time I watch Mad Hungry. Your show inspires me to try new recipes and new techniques in my kitchen everyday.
I come to your blog several times a week to see if viewers have left comments related to the recipes that you have featured. Many times the viewers comments will add to my knowledge base.
I really enjoyed Sarah on the show. I think it is great that each guest brings to your show his/her diverse background and his/her unique personality. Isn’t it wonderful that we are all different!
I agree 100 percent with Ruth!!! Your guests are all different and that’s why the show is special. I also read your blog all the time. I fell in love with your teacher guest John. I am a retired teacher and thought he was very special and a great cook. I hope you reward your viewers by having him back and Sarah back on the show.
Just throwing some great praise ypur way. You’re the best. Each episode is special. I love reading your blog too. I just don’t get the negativity som times. But you know how much viewers respect your work.( Ruth and Ellen, I agree with you.) I love when you cook with guests. Your sons are wonderful. I love your mom. I think Sarah Carey is wonderful. Being a guy, I love teacher John Contratti’s recipes. I love when you cooked with your brother. We all learn so much from others. It’s a friend and family affair. Please tell us that your kids, mom, brother, Sarah and John will all be back with you in the kitchen for the new season. And when is the new season?
All the best,
Thanks for your recipe for coconut bread! I made it also with the zest of one lemon and the juice of three lemons instead of the coconut. Terrific. It also is wonderful with the zest of one orange and the juice of three oranges instead of the cocoanut. Great all purpose recipe basic.
Hey folks: Thank-you for all the great comments. THe positive ones feel good but I don’t shy away from critique either as long as it isn’t mean spirited.
Yes, we are almost finishing filming 50 new shows with all kinds of guests cooking the kind of food you’ve come to love. Everything new is launching on September 26th. Best, LSQ
Hi LSQ. Just happened upon the Hallmark Channel as I was flipping through my endless list of cable channels looking for yet another rerun of Crime Shows to keep my 97 years young mother in law content.
And there you were! I only caught the last few minutes of the show which aired at 11:30AM in my Upstate New York Area (Road Runner- Time Warner Cable).
I enjoyed your demonstration about making rice to go with roasted veggies and chicken. You added sun dried tomatoes and tomato paste to your rice after you sauteed the rice in onion and garlic.
I am looking for this show now on this web site but cannot seem to find it. Searching under “chicken” can get very busy. So, when U get the chance, can you post back with a link to the recipes on this show. I watched it on Tuesday, August 24th. Thank you.
PS- I will be setting up the TV Thingy to tape your shows from now on. I like your style!
I think you’re talking about the Fat Girl Red Rice recipe from the roast chicken show. Please let me know if this is not it: http://www.marthastewart.com/353262/fat-girl-red-rice
