Eating with my eyes…

Published by

I’m posting this not because I made it but because I WANT it: spicy laksa from Pok Pok in Portland, Oregon. Emerging from a sickness haze, where boiling water, honey, lemon and ginger plus emergen-C and mushroom pills have been my meals–I think I may have beaten back that bluesy bummer of a cold/flu. But–now I want hot, spicy, yummy, sweet, sour, hot, tangy soup with lots of cold, crunchy condiments. And, I’m way too tired too make it–so I’ll gaze upon the pic and dream.

Meanwhile, back at the office (and, yes I missed work too), Calder started testing our BEC challenge entries and came home with some tales. Many of the recipes were awesome and one was insanely delicious he said. Others clever and all inventve.  Lo, Sam and Calder also took pictures of all the top tested favorites, filled out rating sheets for each one and I am very excited to post our top favs soon for everyone to vote on.

Now I’ve only seen the pictures but since I’m in a looking and not eating mode, I can only say–there is one–one alone that has stolen my heart.  Word has it from the test kitchen that it was PHENOM. So, stay tuned and we’ll get our entries up for everyone to see.

Just because it Looks good, it doesn’t mean that it Tastes good.

Sprinkling parmesan/romano on potatoes that already on the cookie sheet???? Can you tell them how much of a Mess this is to clean? BLEND the cheeses in a bowl, toss the fries In the bowl….Much better.

I should go to work for Martha Stewart.

Hi there, a quick FYI: that is actually Khao Soi Kai, a Northern Thai curry noodle soup with chicken. We do, however, make Laksa at our sister restaurant, Ping: pingpdx.com
Thanks, Andy Ricker, owner Pok Pok.

I hope you get well soon. I love your show and have recorded every one! My new fav way to cook eggs is poaching them in tomato sauce. Great idea you had and it works perfect every time!
