Blogging + Spurtlemania + QVC This Weekend

It has been a really busy time lately getting ready for my book launch. Like most of you–my days are a crazy patch work of activities surrounding family, work and–friends (need more of that time!).

I really love blogging regularly, but–I know, I know–why don’t I do it MORE.  In fact, writing, in general, is a true pleasure for me. So I will try to do more here.

Aside from the words, I’ve been focusing on creating some of my favorite tools etc. into a Mad Hungry collection of  “favorite things to use in the kitchen”.

So it makes me really happy to have the opportunity to sell my very first product exclusively on QVC along with my new book Mad Hungry Cravings THIS Sunday 2/24 at 1:00PM EST on QVC.

This means the book can be had one full month ahead of the official publishing date! It’s filled with all of the recipes you crave– Sesame Chicken, Boston Cream Pie, Philly Cheese Steaks, Pad Thai, Mac and Cheese, Wings, Burgers, Hot Fudge Sundaes, Fettuccine Alfredo, Pulled Pork– well, you get the picture.

For anyone who has watched the Mad Hungry TV show, you know that I am constantly grabbing and using my Spurtle in the kitchen. AND, I have received hundreds of inquires about what the tool is and where it can be found!

Well now I have an answer: I’ve worked hard at making the best Spurtle and the official Mad Hungry Spurtle can ONLY be found on QVC This Sunday at 1PM.

This phenomenal utensil is actually a very old tool–made originally for stirring porridge in Scotland. I think of it as a cross in between a wooden spoon and a spatula. It is a heritage tool that can be passed on from generation to generation. What’s old is new again. This is not you grandmothers wooden spoon, however!

Ours is made from bamboo–the ‘greenest’ of all woods.  It grows wild like a weed, is hard, durable, and does not retain odors. We’ll be offering two sizes: the Spurtle and little Spurt.

Using the gentle smooth edge of wood means you will not scratch your pans either. Watching friends and family scrape away with metal tools in their nonstick or enameled cast iron pans, causing scratches and chips, just floors me. And, ditto for rubber or silicone which can melt– and well, who knows what is inside there and how safe it is for our family?

Here at my home, anyone who sees my Spurtles wants one, which means it will make an awesome gift for the cook in your life.

If we are successful with our Spurtles, then we will be able to offer all the other great items I’m working on now. SO please tune in, call in to say “hi” and show your Mad Hungry support! Tell friends and family too: This Sunday, February 24th at 1PM EST on QVC: In The Kitchen with David.

With the launch of the book comes a very exciting tour that I kick off in early March. I’ll be doing demos, cooking classes, talks, book signings, etc. all across the country and what I’d love most is to meet all of my Mad Hungry fans– I have been overwhelmed with the dedication and love you have shown to Mad Hungry and would like to put faces to names, so to speak.  Check back next week when I’ll officially announce the tour dates and cities.

Remember, cook for the ones you love, teach them to cook for themselves and they will pass it on.

Best,
LSQ

For those of you that have spurtles, tell us why you love it now through Sunday on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram: @madhungrylsq with the hastag #qvcspurtlemania.

Tour sounds exciting. When you have a chance, can you tell us what’s going on with Mad Hungry, the TV show? Happy traveling.

      Hi Sally,

Thanks for writing and for the support. We’re not sure what’s happening with the Mad Hungry show at this point. We’ve had some discussions with production companies on the development of a new TV show, but as of now, there is nothing new to report (other than we’d love to do a new show). Hallmark, with all of our fans’ encouragement, has put Mad Hungry back on air, but we have not recieved any orders from them or our parent company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, for new shows.

      Best,
      The MH Team

    Hi Lucinda,

Good luck with your tour. I will watch you on QVC. I’ve been following your teacher friend’s blog. He has some good things on there. Have you seen the great recipes? I can’t wait to get your book.

Lucinda, should your legion of fans undertake to send a gazillion messages to MSL Omnimedia asking for a show for you under their auspices? They MUST realize what a cooking treasure you are for any production company. I can’t believe that MS would just let you wither on the vine. The cooking crowd needs your inspiration. I’m an older cook and you have awakened my faded interest in making tasty healthy simple and beautiful food for family mealtimes.

    Hi Lucinda,
My 2 daughters and I are so excited to watch you on QVC this Sunday. We miss your shows but I kept few of your episodes on my DVR. We are looking forward to watch you this Sunday and I would love to have a spurtle collection. You are the best and we love you and watching you cook with your sons it’s like me cooking with my daughters. More blessings to you and your boys

Any chance that you can tell us prices for the things you’ll be selling? How exciting! 🙂 Glad to see you back at it!

I’m so happy for you Lucinda and am super excited about the new cookbook and mini Spurt! Hope you’re coming to my area to do a book signing. I would love an opportunity to thank you in person for the inspiration you’ve given me. My son is now off at college, but last year I cooked many a Mad Hungry meal for him and I cherished every minute of it! Thanks!

    Hi Lucinda!
I have to admit that when I first saw the spurtle advertised on FB I thought it was a large long paddle for a huge pot much like you see at chili cook offs. I told my friend about since he used a bat (yes a baseball bat) at a chili cook off. But now I see what it is and I can’t wait to get one this Sunday along with your new cookbook. Miss your shows though its comforting to watch the repeats on Hallmark. You are the best! Love your shows and recipes because they are easy and yummy and you are so “real”. I relate to you and the stories you share. Thanks!

I am so pleased that you have returned to the Hallmark channel. I like your show so much and like your boys assistance. Do you use your home kitchen or is that a TV setting? It looks so convenient.

  • Barbarainnc February 24, 2013 at 1:49 pm

I oredered a set of your spurtles from QVC. 🙂 Got a set before they sold out. Time to make more!!

I have an original spurtle from the Galloping Gourmet, back in the 70’s or so. I found it on ebay, still had the label on it. Never been used!!

  • Matt February 25, 2013 at 10:10 am

I missed the QVC opportunity on Sunday, anywhere else to get them?

  • Mary February 25, 2013 at 10:33 pm

I’m on a waiting list for the spurtles – will they be reordered?

  • Kiley February 27, 2013 at 11:59 am

I was.watching you show today and you were talking about your kids new word “dank” the word actually refers to high quality marijuana . Thats what all the teenagers and young adults use that word for and it cross references things that are as good as high quality marijuana . It was quite funny hearing you say dank over and over again lol . Fyi 🙂

  • Excellent blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any ideas? Appreciate it!
