Hi Folks,

Just sharing a few of our new recipes as we gear up to film another 8o new MH shows for Hallmark (see zip code locater on the right side of this blog for the channel in your hood).   And here’s a little update on whats been going on with me. First of all thanks to everyone who’s watching the show, enjoying it and taking the time to share your thoughts, ideas, cooking triumphs (and occasional criticism too) with me here on this blog or on our facebook fan page http://www.facebook.com/madhungrylsq?ref=ts.  I truly value your input and also the instant communication we have.  As we are a new show, it takes time to build an audience but that’s what we have to do to keep the show growing and evolving for years to come.  So spread the word to family and friends–Mad Hungry TV teaches and reminds you how to get your family and friends around your table to enjoy meals together!

I took a break with my own family over the holidays to rest and rejuvenate and spend time together. All five of us had the best time together just chilling out, sharing meals and loving each others company. Hanging out at meal time can do that–make you closer to each other.  Since January–I’ve been at work in the test kitchens readying new recipes for the show, doing the Sirius radio show Eatdrink Live on Thursdays at 4pm http://www.sirius.com/marthastewartlivingradio , working with my colleagues on MSLO food and shooting some new columns for MH in MSL.  If you don’t know–included every month in Martha Stewart Living Magazine, is a Mad Hungry column–designed to give your easy strategic recipes, tips and tricks for getting meals on your table.  Starting in the Febuary issue, the magazine is also available for IPAD download–where the stories are not only super beautiful but also have video too so you can get yet another dose of exclusive bits from the set of MHTV. To download for IPAD check it out here http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/martha-stewart-living-magazine/id399094624?mt=8.

We will start filming Monday and I’ll be sure to post pics from the set–new shows will be on the air starting in Febuary Mon-Fri 11:00 am with a repeat show at 11:30.  Meanwhile, starting Jan 31 on Mondays (for 13 weeks) at 11:00 look for a new show Martha Bakes whcih will teach us all (yes, me included!) the very basic essential techniques for successful baking with several recipe variations on the technique. I’ve been seeing bits and pieces of this show and it really is valuable for those of us who either want to learn to bake or take our skills to another level. Don’t worry about MH on Monday–we’ll be on right after Martha Bakes at 11:30.

As for everyone who’s been writing in to ask about the cool products I use on the show:-the famous Spurtle, the low slung all-in-one-pan, jumbo measuring ladle etc–we are also working on a MH product line that will feature all my favorite tools and serving pieces.  More on that later as we progress. Meanwhile–thanks again for your support and good will. We have many great new ideas we’re trying out for the show so be sure to tune-in, check it out and continue to let me know what you think.

Best, LSQ

Yeah!! I miss you!!! You are my favorite new show and I can’t get enough. I have learned so much just about the kitchen, strategies, techniques. So much more than the recipes. Thanks for doing what you do. And, teaching us mom’s in language we can understand. ha. thanks.

    Hi,
I enjoy your show very much.
I usually put it on and record it in the bedroom while I get things together for the day. So, I’m not necessarily watching the whole thing, but listening.
On your 12-21-10 show you went over a seasoning paste for a roast. You mentioned the expense of a roast and the careful prep as to not ruin the expensive treat. It sounded good so I played it back and wrote down the ingredients and amounts.
I made a roast with the seasoning paste on it and it was ok but very salty. I went to your site and checked the recipe and sure enough, you were to use 4 teaspoons of salt not 4 tablespoons of salt. Well, that answered that! Or so I thought.
I just happened to have saved that episode, (I really enjoy you working with your family) and played it back to check what the heck I had done. Low and behold, you said 4 tablespoons of salt. Had I been watching the first time, or instead of writing the recipe the second time, I might have picked up that while you said 4 tablespoons, you picked up a teaspoon, having just used the tablespoon for the olive oil.
I’m very surprised that it wasn’t edited or caught by someone like on the recent episode with your friend Sara when you again said tablespoons and she questioned you to have you correct it to teaspoons.
Thank you for all of the viewing and eating enjoyment yet to come.
    Darlene

I’m so glad that MH will continue. I was afraid that the baking show was going to replace you. I really love your show and enjoy seeing Calder and your older son do so much cooking. I’ve tried many of your recipes and love them all.

  • Cheryl Considine January 22, 2011 at 11:03 pm

Started watching your show last month and its my newest favorite. Bought a cast iron grill and the recipes from your show have my kids so happy. When you introduce a product line please see if you can have a mandoline that cuts sweet potatoes for fries.

  • Michele D January 22, 2011 at 11:19 pm

Hi Lucinda! I discovered your show by accident!! Your concept for the show is what snagged me when my dvr was recording Martha on the Hallmark Channel instead of NBC. I absolutely love your cooking show and now I am setting my dvr to it. You have wonderful, family friendly and simple recipes! I am trying out your spaghetti pomodoro and chicken milanese tomorrow while the Bears are playing the Packers. AND I am spreading the word about your awesome show! Keep it up, Michele

  • Schoning January 23, 2011 at 11:29 am

I am so glad you will have new shows starting in February. I tell everyone about your show AND your amazing book. Good luck

  • Nancy Norman January 23, 2011 at 1:25 pm

Lucinda,I didn’t realize your show was relatively new,I just caught one day and now my husband set the DVR to record it every day I love it so much! You have given me some new great ideas for using my beloved cast iron skillet that was my grandfather’s.I love seeing the interaction between you and your boys as we have two grown sons of our own,one of which thought about going to culinary school at one point because I always tried to include them in preparing meals.I think that’s so important in expanding their palates and getting them to want to try new things. Can’t wait for the new shows!

  • SaraMac January 23, 2011 at 1:43 pm

Kudos to MH and thank you for the upcoming new shows! I have been a fan of yours since I began watching Everyday Food. I appreciate your emphasis on making easy yet elegant family meals and love it when your sons join your side. My DVR is geared up!

  • Gwenn January 23, 2011 at 3:01 pm

80 new shows!?!?! I cannot wait to see what new recipes you have to share with us! I cannot believe how many helpful tricks and tips I have picked up from Mad Hungry (not to mention, awesome recipes). We have had a “Mad Hungry” dinner at least 3 X a week since I found your show in December, and they are always a huge hit. I TIVO the show and usually watch it right after I have finished washing the last dinner dish. Within a few minutes, my husband and the kids have joined me and requested tomorrow nights dinner based on what they have seen on the show. Sure makes planning dinner super easy!

  • Ura January 23, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Love your show, especially the tips and tricks that comes from your “REAL” experience of being a Mom, not just as a chef or culinary expert. I have two younger/growing boys and your relationship with your family is what I admire and strive for. I love to cook and bake, and we eat every night at home, but still learned a lot from your show. I enjoy watching other cooking shows as well, but not often I learn new ideas or find dishes I would actually try. Your approach is not complicated – does not require advanced cooking skills – good balance of fresh and traditional dishes. Please keep including time/schedule/budget managing ideas, and suggestions on alternatives/variations to encourage people to make the dish with what they may already have in their fridge or pantry.

  • Kenn January 23, 2011 at 5:36 pm

    Hi LSQ –
Glad you had a bit of a break with the family. Well deserved! I’m so happy to hear that you’re filming another 80 episodes of the show! Congrats to you!

Equally exciting to hear of a MH merchandise line! My blog readers will be SO happy to be able to find a MH spurtle. People have gone crazy wanting one.

    Wishing you all the best!

  • Sandra January 23, 2011 at 6:20 pm

I started watching around Nov. and LOVE the show. It has become one of if not my favorite show to watch. You and your boys are so delightful ! All of the tips are so helpful. I have cooked most of my life, but you can always teach an old dog new tricks. My best to you and the success of your show !!

Hi, Lucinda- I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your show & the fresh, great, easy recipes! I watch every day while getting ready for work & look forward to your new shows in February. I’m a vegetarian and always get new ideas for something to prepare. You’ve actually made me interested in cooking again. Hurry back! 🙂

  • Brittanie January 23, 2011 at 7:24 pm

I love your show! I would really love you to have an episode all about using the slow cooker. It is my favorite kitchen appliance and is not as readily used as it should be, in my opinion. I think if you highlight it’s usefulness, it can make comeback!

  • Claudia Montgomery January 23, 2011 at 8:01 pm

Hi lsq, I have been trying to see the brand name of your cooking utensil (Spurtle) so I may purchase one. I watch your pgm daily. Would you please tell me where I may buy one? How about William Sonoma Store? I will be waiting to hear from you.
    Thanks in advance,
    C.

  • michelle January 23, 2011 at 8:17 pm

    Lucinda,
I love your show. I watched it one time and then found myself making a point of watching your show. Both episodes! Now, I watch when I can but am recording them on the dvr for those times when I have to rest in between kitchen stuff etc. I never seem to find good stuff to watch but now, I have your show there anytime I want to watch! I am of Italian heritage and your show is very special to me. Takes me back to when my Grandma and Mom were alive. Thank you and God bless.

    Dear Peeps–
I can not tell you how happy it makes me to hear from everyone.
It’s Sunday night–we’re watching the Jets (ok-they’re watching the jets and I’m cooking). Tomorow, I’ll be up and out early to get shooting our new MH episodes which makes it all the more sweeter with input from everyone! Best, LSQ

  • Donna in NC January 23, 2011 at 10:19 pm

Hi Lucinda.. Good luck with the new year and I do love your show. I’ve watched you from episode 1..I have made a lot of your recipes and have no complaints from any of MY family..they just eat it up. Stay well and I look forward to your new season.
    Best to your family too.

  • Eileen January 23, 2011 at 11:45 pm

I love your show and just received your cookbook yesterday. We eat what is in season and from our well stocked pantry. I work part time, am married and have two special needs boys so I do not have the time to run out to the store for this and that. I really don’t use recipes but needed a cookbook to inspire me and pick up my spirits, get us out of some of our menu ruts and you are just the ticket. I look forward to more episodes!

  • Margi Hansen January 24, 2011 at 12:16 am

    Lucinda,
I’m a later comer to your book and website, and show. I don’t have cable so don’t catch the show, but do watch the segments of it on the MS website. I love your blog and FB page. I just ordered the book tonight. 🙂 Looking forward to fixing many of the recipe for my “boys.” My husband & 11 year old son.
    Thank you!

Thank you sincerely for bringing MH to us Lucinda! I can’t tell you how much it inspires me everyday to nourish my family with quality food. I love to cook in my kitchen while I watch you & Martha on the Hallmark Channel. Congrats on 80+ upcoming shows & the new product line!

  • Myra S January 24, 2011 at 11:51 pm

Hi Lucinda, I am so thrilled and excited with MH. I never miss a episode. If I am not in front of the tv then the dvr is running. I have tried so many of your recipies and they have all been a hit. I have always enjoyed cooking and entertaining, but you have given me a renewing spirit for it. Love the boys on the show. It makes it a real family affair. Thank you and best of luck with the show.I tell everyone about it.

  • Cindy Williams January 25, 2011 at 1:14 am

    Lucinda,
We are thrilled to find you on Hallmark Channel! Love your style and the recipes! It is nice to find dinner ideas that are simple, delicious, and enjoyable for all of the family. Looking forward to more! Love the ease of preparation and the basic ingredients. Keep em’ coming!

Good Morning LSQ.. just wanted let you know, I will NEVER get chinese dumplings for take out again!! I made them yesterday, with your chicken/peanut dish YUM.. and my own fried (not really fried..shhh) rice. Lucinda, I love watching your show and how nice it is when the boys join in the fun. Trying to convert my picky eater family with your healthy and delicious recipes. Thanks for a wonderful show that offers great food that anyone can prepare and feel they’ve accomplished something special for their loved ones. I always look forward to the next menu on MH. Thanks!

  • Deanna Johnson January 25, 2011 at 4:20 pm

    Lucinda:

I watch lots of cooking shows and collect cookbooks. Your philsophy about food and cooking is mine! My grown children are all great cooks and have passed along our family philsophy of the connection of growing, preparing and eating good food together. Many of our family “stories” revolve around the kitchen.

I found your show by accident when Martha moved to Hallmark channel. I was also worried when the promo of the baking show started. I’m so glad they didn’t replace you! It’s great that there is a cooking show that the normal home cook can relate to but that doesn’t used prepared ingredients.

I have a large garden in the summer and can and freeze most of our veggies and fruit. We buy our pork and beef from a farmer down the road. We are trying to participate in the slow movement in our own small way.

I would be interested in shows showcasing slow cooker recipes, canning ideas, and what you can freeze and what you can’t ideas. I love that you mention that on your show.

Keep up the good work and I’ll keep watching.

  • Pat January 26, 2011 at 10:06 am

I am really glad to hear that more shows are coming. I made my husband clear off the DVR so I can tape them. No complaints from him,he is enjoying the new recipes I get from the show so much. The chicken hand pies were a real hit last night and just what we needed with the cold and snow outside.

  • Holly January 29, 2011 at 6:53 pm

    Hi Lucinda,

I love your show, and I love your friendly way of making it all look so easy. You and your show have inspired me to try so many of the recipes and my husband is loving the fact that I am cooking these delicious meals for a “mad hungry” guy! Looking forward to the MH product line, since cooking is a whole lot more fun when you have the right tools! Keep up the great work!

  • Barbara Shramo January 31, 2011 at 10:08 am

My husband made your stuffed shells and tomato sauce yesterday. They were fabulous. He is retired and has discovered your show.

  • Joan Blessing February 12, 2011 at 2:49 pm

I really love and enjoy your show and tape it daily to watch after my morning obligations are done. I do have a question–where do you buy your tops? They are casual yet stylish, perfect for the stay at home mom.
I am so glad more new shows are starting up! I have already tried many of your recipes and find them easy to execute and delicious. Looking forward to more!

  • Lucy February 14, 2011 at 9:53 pm

    Lucinda –
Can’t tell you how much I enjoy your show and your cookbook. I am an avid cook and the mother of 17 and 20-year-old daughters with boyfriends (and a husband) who love to eat!! I stumbled onto your book in Martha’s mag, which led me to the show, which led me to the blog, and the rest is history! I can’t get enough! Feeding the boyfriends keeps everyone close to home so I can keep on eye on things, if you know what I mean! I just want to tell you that I am completely coveting your spurtle and want one (or more!) just like it. Online, I can find one lovely expensive ($35) one, and one set of cheap ones ($4.95 for 6), but neither is exactly like yours. Please make one in-between and with the lovely curve that yours has. I was breaking up 3 pound of ground meat tonight in a dutch oven and wishing I had Lucinda’s spurtle! Thank you.

  • Kate April 12, 2011 at 3:32 am

love the show – please tell us all where we can purchase the spurdle that you use – hopefully you can pass on the company or manufacturer name.
    thanks very much

  • Lisa April 22, 2011 at 5:12 pm

I ditto the above comment about trying to find the spurtle you use. I’d love to be able to gift my daughter with one for her bridal shower, as she loves watching your show with me and has commented on it many times. I think it would be such a multi-purpose tool – and I notice it’s your “go-to” tool also. HELP!!!!! You have frustrated followers – please answer us during one of your shows!!!

  • Teri May 20, 2011 at 12:34 am

Check out this site on the spurdle. They have a few that might work. http://www.kitchencarvers.com/Spurtles.htm

  • Betty Frazier May 20, 2011 at 3:08 am

Lucinda, I want to join the many others to tell you how much I love your show “Mad Hungry”. I watch it every day and also record it on DVR so I can watch it over. The recipes seem so easy. You make cooking fun. I’ve always loved to cook, but I haven’t used fresh herbs. Learning about which ones to use for certain dishes is so exciting. I hope the show is on for a long time. I can’t get enough. I am homebound and spend a lot of time watching TV. Your show is a bright spot to my day. I grew up a very picky eater. The dishes you prepare make me want to try new dishes. I am fascinated about how much I have learned about garlic from you. I also love when you have your sons on the show. Calder (I hope I spelled it right) is adorable, and seems to be a very good cook. I like to watch Miles cut up a chicken. He sure knows what he’s doing! Keep on keeping on….

  • Leo May 21, 2011 at 1:29 pm

Sorry Lucinda, the Negroni was the worst cocktail I’ve yet to cross my palate. I thought it would be interesting as I’ve never tried Campari. I already had a good bottle of gin and sweet vermouth, so I thought I’d get a bottle of Campari. Total waste of money. How about the next time you introduce a cocktail you mention just a touch of history in your comments about the liquor you are using. It would have been helpful to know Campari was in the family of bitters. I trusted the cook and did not do the research before buying the Campari. My bad.

  • Julie May 21, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Since I am the mother of two boys, your sons and your great relationship (and obvious love) between all of you adds to the great recipes. My best friend is Italian and you remind me of her family. EVERYBODY HAS TO EAT!!! And have fun!! I love all your comments and helpful hints. Watch your show daily and dvr it to take down notes for later. I really appreciate that you think a meal is not complete without some kind of salad. It’s just a great counterpoint to have a new texture (and temerature of food) on your plate. Between Martha and you, Hallmark is the only channel I have on in the mornings. May both of you keep up the good work.

  • Betty July 13, 2011 at 9:51 am

I love your show and recipes but have a problem with your web site. I was looking for your “baked ziti” recipe but a Saturday breakfast comes up each time I try. It’s totally frustrating when I can’t type in a recipe and get it. I can’t remember the date it aired and all I have is a hand written copy that I find hard to follow. The recipe used 2 eggs and 1 cup of heavy cream. Can you help??

  • MARIE July 29, 2011 at 7:02 pm

HI LUCINDA JUST LOVE YOUR SHOW I AM AN ITALIAN AND YOU COOK JUST LIKE MY MOM DID HOME MADE PASTA WAS HER STYLE THANKS FOR THE FAMILY MEAL TO COME TOGETHER

  • Gloria Bradley August 3, 2011 at 4:09 pm

I have made several of your recipes now and my family love them. Being a working mother, your recipes are easy and can be prepped the night before so my family has a nice hot meal when they get home. I also made the spinach pesto fusilli and my family loved that. I was surprised because I had never made a pesto and my family is not “out of the ordinary” eaters. Told them we were starting to antioxidate ourselves early before the flu season. Thank you for the great show and the great recipes.

  • Ellen Johnson December 26, 2011 at 12:31 pm

I have been first copying recipes every day about a year ago or year and half. I love the building flavor theme that you use. If I would have used this method as a young mother, my kids would now eat ingredients that were sweated properly and one cannot tolerate onions to this day. What else makes flavor like the onion? The garlic, and the celery and the olive oil. I never used olive oil before. I learned it is healthy and that it influences taste. What a wonder your show has become. I don’t like that there is only a half hour show now. I do record it in case I have to run out while it airs. We only get it once a day here. Finally I bought your cook book. Recently I made the thigh recipe that Calder Shared. I love the tamale pie. I need to from here on continue practicing on good salads. The Greek salad was special. However the friends never heard of Calamata olives but I liked them. I love the feta and also learned about Asiago cheese. I love the flavor of it. I also love the tip to use a peeler to shave it off how clever. We live where it is very cold so we can use all these base recipes and my husband is retiring so he will be home more and I will have to cook. Prices have gotten so they are a little more than we can afford to eat out often but we do go out once in 2 weeks and eat out so that may not seem often enough for some but it is very costly when you are on a low income. We plan to go south one of these days and then will try different sea food. I like shrimp. I also just bought the cast iron porcelin covered Wilfred Puck deep cooking pot and a low braiser. I am going to try scallops one of my husbands favorite and will use a dip on top or chutney like you had on your recipe. I see that you leave them sear before turning them. God Bless, and keep up the great work, I may be a good cook by my 80’s. I am 70 now.

Hello Lucinda….thanks for all your wonderful recipes! Enjoy your show and your family involvement so much. I have always enjoyed cooking but you have brought cooking to a new level for many of us out here watching. I have tons of cookbooks and have said many times “I don’t need anymore cookbooks” so have held off buying another one, but I am going to give in and buy one more! Mad Hungry! When you chop, it always looks so easy
and then I realized it is because your knives are all very sharp. One day you mentioned that sometime you would do a segment on the kind of knives we need in our kitchens and how to properly sharpen them and care for them. Thanks for all your
tips and so glad you will be doing 80 new cooking
shows for us to enjoy. I will be watching for a
    segment on knives! Thanks!

The subsequent time I read a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I imply, I know it was my choice to read, but I truly thought youd have one thing fascinating to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you can repair if you werent too busy looking for attention.
