Recipes from Today’s Show: Asian-Inspired Menu

Published by

TODAY on MHTV: My friend Paul is here showing me how to make his family-style version of bibimbap, a traditional Korean rice dish. “Paulbimbop” as I like to call it, is a great one-pot meal with a Mediterranean twist to the ingredients. I like to serve it with a jar of kimchi too- a classic Korean condiment where the veggies are seasoned and fermented before use. A side of pickled cucumbers and a sweet treat of frozen Vietnamese coffee make this meal just about perfect. More from the show.

I had a nice neighbor who shared her rice pilaf recipe given to her by her Armenian mother-in-law. It was similar, using narrow egg noodles browned in butter, rice and chicken broth but last, before serving she liberally sprinkled it with Apple Pie Spice, which she said was similar to a combination of spices Armenians call “pepper”.

No onions, but my family loves it.

I made this recipe for my family this evening and it was a big hit! I have a four year old daughter and three year old twin sons and even they loved it!

My husband and I also discovered that we LOVE kimchi! Thanks for the recipe!

I had a Korean room mate in college and he never taught me this recipe. I think tonite when I get home I am going to make this, but with a twist of Thai bird chilies and some thai basil and instead of using rice I will use rice stick noodles. Very good and versatile recipe! BTW, I liked watching you and the crew on Everyday Cooking!

im sorry but this is not bibimbop at all. i love mad hungry and watch the show almost everyday but this is not a bibimbop! oh, yeah, im a korean. first of all, bibimbop needs korean chily paste (go-chu-jang) not mustard and we dont put kimchi on the bibimbop. all u need is korean chily paste, fried egg, and a drop of sesemi oil, steamed white rice and whatever you wanna put (e.g. beef, letters. etc)for your dish.
This recipe is not a bibimbop… it is just what lucinda made up for herself. anyway recipe looks good tho. also it is “bi-bim-bop” not paulbimbop.
“bi-bim” means “mix” and “bop” mean “stemed white rice”.
