TODAY on MHTV: During a trip to Germany, we encountered sausages, sauerkraut and every kind of “wurst” you can imagine. This Oktoberfest-inspired dinner has all the earthy flavors and hearty foods of fall. Boiled potatoes with parsley and dill are a simple yet mouthwatering side dish alongside German sausages with apples, onions and sauerkraut. Any extra apples in the house get used up to make an easy, but delicious, German apple cake. More from the show.

    What a great show….simple and to the point…she cooks like me…using a fork or a wisk and not loaded down by electrical appliances….

    I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your show! Where have you been hiding all these years? Your recipes are amazing & just cry out to be tried. Love the shows when your boys are on. We also have a family that cooks together, in fact whoever helped Dad in the kitchen was called the “gopher”…go for this, go for that..haha.
    Making your carnitas for dinner tomorrow…can’t wait.

    The potato recipe I wanted was the ones she fixed like

    french fries. I don’t know the spices that she put on

    them.

    I just watched this show this morning for the first time and have fallen in love with it. I am not a experienced cook/baker but looks like the recipes come across simple and fast something that I could do.

    I can’t wait to try the sausage-onion-apple-sauerkraut recipe! What a wonderful Fall comfort dish. Serving it with Schwarzwalder dark rye on the side. You know, that might make a great sandwich later! The dishes you make are so ordinary-cook-friendly! I really like your show.

    Marilyn,

    The french fry recipe you wanted was the Italian Fries recipe. I found it when I did a search on Mad Hungry for Burger Night or Burger Bar which is what else they did on the show the dad. The video and recipe came up when I did that search.

    Marilyn – Here is the Italian Fries recipe:

    Serves 6 (if you are very lucky)

    6 or 7 Idaho potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/3-inch-thick French fry-style strips, soaked in cold water
    4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) extra-virgin olive oil
    1 tablespoon dried Italian herbs or some combo of dried oregano, thyme, marjoram, and basil
    2 cups freshly grated Romano cheese
    1/4 cup parsley leaves, finely chopped
    4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) salted butter, cut into 6 cubes
    Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
    Directions
    1.Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2.Drain the potatoes and pat dry with paper towels. Spread 1 tablespoon of the olive oil on each of 2 rimmed baking sheets and spread out the potatoes. Overlapping is fine.
    3.Sprinkle the dried herbs evenly over the potatoes. Liberally spread the cheese and parsley on top. Drizzle the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the cheese. Scatter the cubed butter around the pans.
    4.Potato Prep: For a French-fry cut, peel the potatoes and slice lengthwise into 1/3-inch-thick slices. Stack the slices on top of one another, a few at a time, and slice lengthwise into 1/3-inch-thick strips. Peeled and sliced potatoes can turn brown pretty quickly. To avoid this, try floating the peeled, cut pieces in cold, salted water. When you’re ready to cook, drain them and pat dry.
    5.Bake until the potatoes are golden brown, rotating the pans after 30 minutes, for 45 to 50 minutes total. Use a spatula to lift off the potatoes with all the crusty cheese adhered to them. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.

    I love Mad Hungry!! I record the show daily. Lucinda has become like a friend sharing her secrets for bringing my family to the table running. So far my favorite recipe has been Veg. lentil soup (I love soups!!) I always try new recipies I find out on my sister. We couldn’t pull ourselves away form the soup pot. I’m excited to try more recipies. I am asking Santa for the Mad Hungry cookbook!! Thanks for such a fun show, it is one of my favorites.

    I made the sausage & apple recipe this last weekend like I said I was going to do. My husband looked at the dish & said “that looks like Martha made it!” I said close — it was Lucinda. 🙂 He loved it & so did I. So glad to have your show & some new recipes that work. I didn’t recall you putting pickles in the recipe on the show & didn’t put them in mine either but I used a lil apple cider vinegar instead of apple cider. Yum!

    I love your roasted cauliflower w/raisins,capers,garlic,and parsley. My husband said this is the only way he wants to eat cauliflower from now on. Love your recipes and Caulder.

    I made your Lentil soup today. It was excellent and I dont like beams. My husband passed away 4/18/10. He really would have like your soup. Your

    Why do I watch a show on TV today, Jan.25, 2011, and would like to see the recipes. On the show I was encouraged to go to madhungry.com—which I did and what I see is a picture and program from Oct, 2010.
    Todays show was about spaghetti, etc and the web site is featuring something about a trip to Germany and sausage and sauerkraut which was shown 4 months ago.
    Are you that slow?????
    I was very disappointed and confused.
    Oh, well!!

    This is the very best meal preparation show at present. Love watching the show when the sons or nieces are helping Lucinda prepare meals. Where is this show moving when Martha takes over the 11:00 cooking hour???? Can’t live without Lucinda’s interesting & informative show!!!!

    Okay Lucinda….I so love every episode! Thank you! The recipe i keep thinking about, and especially now for Super Bowl Sunday, is the “pressed sandwich”. If I REmember correctly, you mentioned someone you know that has her guest sit on the sandwich to flatten it, before serving it! I love the “make ahead” quality of this casual main course. Can I please have the recipe!!

    I really do enjoy your show. Happened on it accidentally and am so happy I found you! Don’t normally watch cooking shows, but you are like a friend just giving me one of your recipes, over coffee. So nice that I usually always have the ingredients on hand.

    I just watched the episode “Meal between snakes”. Calder’s idea of done up Ramen noodle is brilliant. Being Chinese myself and I had so many Ramen noodles, I have never thought of making peanut noodle so quick and so easy.
    My family and myself do what he does exactly, eat from the pot or serve from the pot to wash less dishes. We do not use dishwasher in China !!
