Recipes from Today’s Show: New York Diner Food

TODAY on MHTV: My son Calder and I are big fans of New York City diners, and today we’re taking inspiration from them with some no-fuss, diner-style staples of our own. Our chicken club is stacked high with layers of fixings, homemade Dijon mayo, and a pickle on top. Of course, we’re baking a New York-style cheesecake, and washing it all down with chocolate egg creams.

    Hi Lucinda,

    I’m a male viewer of your show and I really enjoy it. I’m a fireman and always cook for my co-workers. I love when you cook with your son and other male cooks. At the Iron Skillet Cook Off in Manhattan this past Monday night, I got to meet your teacher friend John Contratti. He was one of the judges along with some sports stars, politicians, and some celebrities. He was such a nice guy. I told him how much I enjoyed the recipes he cooked on your show. I’m writing to say that I hope Mad Hungry has John back on. He was my favorite guest cook. I follow your blog and his each day. Between the two of you I have so many recipes to share with my family and friends. Thanks for all you do.

    Lucinda–cheese cake sounds great. You use a 9×13
    rectangular springform?

    Chicken Club looks great. I agree with Gary, bring back John Contratti. He was a great guest and cook. The show should be on for an hour a day.

    I am a big fan of your show and tape each episode. The Baked Potato Poppers you recently made put me in mind of a dish my Swedish grandmother used to make called Kroppkakor. It was a potato dish that took her many hours to make. I was wondering if your recipe could be adapted to get the taste of her dish with a lot less work. The filling in these potato dumpling balls was a mixture of diced pork pieces, diced salt pork, onions and spices – mostly salt pepper and allspice. Just thought you might want to consider adapting this recipe with a filling inside such as this. Sally

    I made the cheesecake and it was great! My family said it was as good as the Cheesecake Factory 🙂

    Your recipes are delicious AND always have the right measurments! 🙂 Your recipes are the ONLY ones I trust from past experiences to always have all ingredients listed just right.

    Thanks for all of the delicious recipes! they are always super and full of great flavor. Lots of recipes I have to either spice up or tweek down. But not with Mad Hungry. Thanks again! Fantastic.
