Recipes from Today’s Show: Pantry Raid Puttanesca Meal

Published by

TODAY on MHTV: With the exception of a couple items I picked up from the grocery store,  this meal is coming straight from my pantry. Thanks to a couple cans of whole tomatoes, a few spices and a stash of pasta, I’m making bucatini tossed with fiery, homemade puttanesca sauce. Plus, a twist on my great grandmother’s pantry-friendly molasses cookies. More from the show.

re: molasses in old recipes- it covered up the taste of lard which was used because it was all that was available to some and was economical for the rest, especially during world war 2 rationing.Spice cookies and spicecake also disguised the flavor of lard.

Love, love, love your show. Finally a cooking show that speaks to the way my mother taught me to cook!

To improve your rum/orangeade cocktail, try to muddle the lime & bitters with some superfine sugar initially then build with ice. You may then discard the lime wedge(saving the juice & pulp) and garnish with a lime wheel. For a change of pace, a stemmed cherry could be added while muddling. Enjoy!

    Dear Lucinda,

I love your mad hungry show, because I would actually make 95% of what you cook on your shows. The recipes are not so involved, that it puts you off-and the ingredients are not so exotic, that a cook gets disinterested, either. Your show is just about my favorite on television, now. Thank you for being down to earth with your cooking, yet inpired!

J; fascinating molasses fact which makes perfect sense and I shall mention it next time we are filming a baked good with molasses from my grandmothers recipe file.

RB: THanks for the cocktail redo idea. I’d prob not add more sugar though but muddling the lime and bitters is a good idea.

DR: That makes me very happy to know that you are interested in most of the things we cook on MH. We are unrolling 80 new shows so keep watching and spread the word!
    Best,

Why do you develop recipes with a green color. Without color toner you cannot print you recipes. Is that intentional?

I made these recipes for my family tonight and my husband loved the puttanesca and melon dishes. I love your Italian inspired recipes. So easy and delicious!

I love the fact that whenever I am drawing a blank for what to make for dinner, all I have to do is come to the MH blog! I can always find an amazing meal in two minutes that my family will love. I print out the recipes and make my grocery list the night before. The next day, I only need 5 minutes in the market to pick up the ingredients needed for dinner. None of the meals take longer than an hour to make (usually shorter). It has made my family dinner preparation completely fun and stress-free. PLUS..I can even get my 15 year old and 17 year old to meet their friends AFTER dinner now. They would rather eat dinner at home with us than eat out with their friends.

    Hi Lucinda!!
My daughter and I just made the Molasses Drop cookies. They are WONDERFUL!!! But… mine turned out puffy. I thought I remembered you crunching into yours. Did I do something wrong? Or are they supposed to be puffy? They are DELICIOUS, though!!!

    His,
    Shari
