Arrived in Cincinnati with a couple rare hours to spare which meant my traveling companion AKA all around explorer took us to the Art Museum which was closed so we ended up at the Serpentine wall along the Ohio river. See, I wear clogs for cooking–not for walking or pseudo-hiking yet he had us on a long river walk, clogs and all. We walked past the river boat, crazy Whistle Stop audio sculptures and ended up at the John A. Roebling bridge, formerly known as the Cincinnati-Covingtone Bridge (at its building the longest suspension bridge ever made) and notable to us a bridge also designed by the man who designed the Brooklyn Bridge. We ended up at Riverfront Stadium before heading back to the hotel, where–reluctant as I was to dine in at the hotel restaurant, The Palace, was amazed by the meal from former Thomas Keller alumn, Jose Salazar formerly of Per Se and Bouchon Bakery. Every detail of the meal was superb from the bread to the Chicken and Dumping soup (signature Keller, reconstructing a comfort food fav) and the pork, with bacon and maple mustard bread pudding and braised red cabbage. So good. But, we hurried through dessert as the Yankees beckoned.

So lots of local TV tomorrow, at Michael’s in Dayton and finish at Book & Co for a signing too.
Please come on by if this is your burg! Tomorrow, we’ll find some famous Cincinnati Chili, a “two-way” chili served over pasta. Uh huh–it’ll be a first.
