Mad Hungry MY WAY: Nicolas & Sofia Make Garlic Toast

Published by

I get tons of feedback on here and on facebook about people making the Mad Hungry recipes or their riffs on them so on Mondays, we’d like to start posting  Mad Hungry MY Way Mondays, a part of the mad hungry blog where we show YOUR Mad Hungry Meals.

This week’s Mad Hungry my Way comes from two cuties, Nicolas and Sofia, that are “Mad Hungry about Mad Hungry”. Their dad, Abe, emailed us their story:

My wife Anna is a fourth grade teacher and went back to work when the kids were a year old. Anna is a teacher and since the kids were born, Anna comes home from work every evening and makes a fresh meal for the family from scratch, most of the ingredients she uses are organic.  And the meals? Well, let’s just say that they are always incredibly creative and good! So the kids have basically grown up in the kitchen with an understanding of what is healthy and what is not. Every evening, as much as I can be there because of my work schedule, we eat as a family. And on the weekends, we usually have breakfast, lunch and diner together and the kids take every opportunity to be in the kitchen and “help” out as much as possible.  More often than not we shop for a groceries together and the kids really enjoy that too. Anna and the kids make your show “appointment television,”  they DVR it, watch it and discuss the recipes and what they like, what ingredients they would substitute, the set, your kitchen tools among other things.  The kids NEVER want to miss “Mad Hungry”, and ask if there’s a new show on DVR all the time.  You are frequently quoted by Sofia and Nicolas in the kitchen or in the grocery store, or on our monthly field trip to Chelsea Market and the meat packing district. It seems as if “Mad Hungry” is their time to connect with their mom around a subject and activity that everyone enjoys.  So last week, during one of your shows, the kids said “we want to make a video of one our recipes for Lucinda and send it to her.” Anna and I thought it was great idea and we made the video.  We hope enjoy it as much as we relished making it, and as much as the kids enjoy watching and learning from you.

Check out Nicolas and Sofia’s Mad Hungry video and don’t forget to send your Mad Hungry My Way pics, riffs and stories to madhungrylsq@gmail.com & we’ll post!

Yes it’s nice. But how about answering bloggers questions. That would be even nicer.

    Hi Lucinda,

Love your show but I am disappointed that the features on the website keep changing!! It was great being able to search the recipe archive or have the video available to watch when you try a recipe. Why do they keep changing things and in my opinion not always for the better. Please bring back those features.

Lucinda, I have fallen in love with your show. I DVR it everyday and can’t wait to watch it before my family gets home for dinner. I think it is great when you have your family on w/you, but 1 thing that has bothered me a lot lately is not being able to navigate the site for recipes. I think you should have total control of your show. It annoys me that your recipes are only on Martha’s website. I admire your stenghts as a mom, wife and cook. Keep them coming!!

Wonderful job! Thank you Nicolas and Sofia for that SUPER demonstration and for sharing your secrets. I am going to show my boys this video and then we are going to try your recipe. They are also Mad for Mad Hungry!

This is my third comment and request. Your new season is underway. I am asking again, why have you stopped the video links to your shows and recipes? I miss your show during the day and do not have a DVR. I can’t tell you how I looked forward to watching the video/recipes links in the evening.

Please answer my comment, as this is the third request. Will the video links ever return?????

    Thank you

These kids are great! How cute, I they need their own show, how fun!

So many of us have left comments since the start of the new season, asking what happened to the show archive and videos, and our questions have never once been addressed. I love Mad Hungry, but I don’t get Hallmark so the streaming videos on marthastewart.com were such a godsend all last season. It was so easy to find a recipe when a whole month’s worth of shows were right there at a glance, and you could click month to month in search of a recipe.

I recently was searching for a recipe from a Mad Hungry episode that aired last season, and I had to go back one page at a time on Lucinda’s site until I found what I was looking for, way the heck back on page 40-something, and it took nearly a half hour. This is crazy! There has to be a better way. Please bring back the show archive. How many of us need to complain? Will someone from MSLO please address this issue?

    Sincerely,
An avid but very frustrated Mad Hungry fan

    What adorable and creative children!

  • Gayle November 7, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Wow! The recipe looks delicious kids! I love the way you work together to make things happen. I helped my mom in the kitchen when I was growing up too. I still love to cook. I teach school and just like your mom I cook supper almost every night. My kids are grown and don’t live at home but my husband helps me now. And every night, no matter what I cook he says, “Good dinner.” Too sweet.

Irish butter, yum! Good work kids and I have to show this my children! They love to eat, but not cook. Will try the recipe too!

Quite a knack for explaining this recipe kids! I enjoyed your video!

Lucinda – love your show. However, I cannot find you on Cdn. cable tv so I miss your video clips online. Your piece on roadhouse recipes interested me – were you reminiscing about the Rendevous Tavern on the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario where you spent part of your childhood? I am also from Windsor and your recipe for perch took me back there. We also have another thing in common – you mention your first job as a teen was at the “Bon Appetit” in Conn. My family owned a restaurant in Detroit in the 1960’s also called “Bon Appetit”. Love your website and recipes. Looking forward to our winter in Florida where I will be able to catch you on tv.
