Recipes From Today’s Show: Christmas Morning

Published by

Today on MHTV: Is there anything better than Christmas morning? Now that my boys are older, we don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn. Instead we sleep in a bit, take our time opening presents and sit down for a leisurely brunch together. Today, Calder’s here to help me make a brunch that’s low-effort. I love fruit in some shape or form at my breakfast table so we’re preparing a Three Melon Salad. With a chop of the fruit, tear of some mint and a squeeze of lime, you’re done! For some little bits that the boys can pop in their mouths between opening gifts, my Breakfast Sausage puffs and my Ham, Jam, Cheddar Puffs are the perfect combo of salty and sweet that satisfies the hunger pangs. For an awesome special occasion main, my Raisin Bread French Toast hits the spot. It’s served warm from the oven topped with a syrupy Orange Butter Sauce. Now this is my idea of holiday eating!

I enjoyed Calder on the show, I would like to see him more.

    Mad Hungry,

I was wondering when teacher/cook John Contratti is coming back on the show? He was a great guest and thanks to his website(www.cookingwithmrc.tumblr.com)I had the greatest side dishes for Thanksgiving. I’ve seen many requests for him and tune in each day hoping to see him cooing again.

P.S. I also have made the eggplant recipe and vegetable dish he cooked so many times for my family.

There are some great ideas here for make-ahead recipes! This year, I’m in charge of Christmas morning (mom’s hosting Christmas dinner, my sister-in-law gets Eve), and I like to make a dish I can take to each of them the night before and they just bake in the morning for their families. Last year I did cinnamon rolls, which didn’t get a great response. So guess what I’m making this year?! Thanks for the doable, do-ahead recipes!

Lucinda – I must say, I just love, love, love your show. I love your recipes and your ease and naturalness in front of the camera – your warmness genuinely shows through. I feel like if I were to ever meet you or was a guest on your show, that you would just make me feel “comfortable” and not nervous.

And Calder – he’s just another “natural” as well. I love when he’s on the show with you. You have a good looking family Lucinda. Well, I’m “Mad Hungry” and off to make something for lunch.

I agree. I love Calder. I also must agree with Danny. I am a follower of John Contratti’s website. I’m hoping Mad Hungry will have him back on so he can cook some of his many great recipes.
Also, where are the videos that were always on here. What are they doing to the best cooking show on television?

    Lucinda,
Todays show was so much fun! You and Calder had both my husband and me reminiscing about our own Christmases. The recipes you shared sound great. I can hardly wait to try them.

Your melon salad looked delightful and I will be using this recipe in the near future. I don’t do christmas brunch or breakfast but the ham and sausage puffs look wonderful for appetizers (maybe sans jam). The French toast looks wonderful for a “breakfast for dinner” treat.

I remember Lucinda mentioning that the sausage puffs and ham, cheese and jam puffs can be frozen and baked later. Does anyone remember exactly the instructions?

This is why we need the videos back – there are so many times when Lucinda mentions something on the show that is not included in the recipe. This is yet another one of those times when it would have been really handy to have the video to refer to.

Please bring back the recipe archive and videos – dozens of us have expressed our frustration over such a useful resource being taken from the website. And for those of us who don’t get the Hallmark channel, we really miss seeing Lucinda and Calder without those darn videos!!!

    Chris,
In regards to preparing the puffs ahead of time: Prepare as stated in the recipe, except do not bake. Put them on a baking sheet covered with parchment and put them in the freezer. When the puffs are frozen, remove them from the freezer and put them in a plastic freezer bag. Place bag in freezer.

On the day of the party, etc., remove the amount needed from the freezer and bake them. (You do not have to thaw them before baking.) You may have to add an additional amount of time to the stated baking time.

The melon salad sounds great, but where do you find fresh watermelon in December?
