Recipes From Today’s Show: Improvisational Pantry
TODAY on MHTV:Some days you’ve just got to make do with what’s on hand. Today, I’m turning ordinary pantry items into dishes that sing. I’m seasoning black beans with garlic and cumin, preparing a tomato and chickpea sauce for pasta, and giving popcorn a pop with chili powder and lime. Finally, I’m whipping up a batch of irresistible dark chocolate-peanut butter bars. More from the show.

Watching Lucinda make Pasta with Chickpes-Tomato sauce reminds me of my grandmother, Catherine (Caterina). This was a staple in our house especially on Fridays which were meatless when I was growing up!! It continues to be a staple for me and always reminds me of grandma….plus it is delicious!!!We called it Ceci and pasta!
Love the recipes back. Black beans and rice are on the menu this weekend.

I’m thinking of adding nuts to the dark chocolate peanut butter bars. Very yummy.

Hi Lucinda,
So glad to see bloggers comments again. To Ellie, I’m adding walnuts to the bars. My kids will love them.

Wow that looks amazing! We would love it if you could share that with our foodie community on Momtrends! http://www.momtrends.com/2012/03/crockpot-stuffed-apple-french-toast/
I love your show. I stopped watching food network. You and your sons are very charming and real. Huge fan.
Lucinda, your show is a highlight of my day. Your recipes are simple, uncomplicated, and I love the relaxed, user-friendly way you present them… I feel like I am right there in the kitchen with you. I have learned so much and you’ve inspired me to truly cook again. We’ve enjoyed everything that I’ve tried. Very fresh and healthy, not to mention delicious. I especially enjoy the family Italian recipes you’ve shared, and even more so when you cook with Calder — he’s a natural, both on TV and in the kitchen! By the way, I’m a Detroit native and have also loved eating in Greektown, as well as some of the wonderful Middle Eastern restaurants that now abound in the Detroit area — I get a kick when you mention places that I also know there and in Windsor, Ontario. Thanks for a great show… I hope you stay on TV for a long, long time!
