Pork chops are a classic dinner time meal and today I’m giving them a big flavor boost by adding apples and onions to the mix. CQ is here to help me too; on the side, we’re serving spicy sweet potato wedges and for dessert an easy no-cook treat of pureed dates and gingersnap cookies. More from the show.

Sorry to hear Mad Hungry will not be back in the Fall. Will you at least be making some new epsidoes before it ends? It’s such a shame.

    Amy

  • JoAnn January 4, 2012 at 11:29 am

What??!! Amy where did you hear this? Is this really true??? What a HUGE bummer!! Mad Hungry has changed the way I feed my family and I am not exagerating when I say MH and LSQ have changed our lives. So sad. 🙁

  • Ted January 4, 2012 at 12:05 pm

Go to Google and type “Martha Cancelled”. Mad Hungry is part of that too. Are you really surprised JoAnn? I’m not. The wrong people were made in charge of the show. Whomever I talk to, they never even heard of The Hallmark Channel. Also, Mad Hungry has been blowing off viewer comments since last summer. They got was they deserved, unfortunately.

  • Vivian January 4, 2012 at 12:08 pm

I just read it also. If the show will run through September, are they going to be allowed to make some new episodes? Martha will be making more. Let’s hope Lucinda will respond to the people who have supported her and the show.

    Lucinda,

Just read that Martha will cease production in April. Please tell us that you’re allowed to make more new shows before it ends.

  • Tim January 4, 2012 at 1:16 pm

Please forward to the Hallmark Channel:

Mad Hungry is the best cooking show on any station. Let them make more episodes. Don’t do this to such a great show and to the viewers who have stuck by it.

I thought it was a really bad idea when Martha packed up her show and went to Hallmark at the start of the 2010 season. For one thing, not everyone gets the Hallmark channel. Why she went from network syndication (she was on the local NBC affilliate in my area) to a channnel that not everyone has access to and that carries re-runs of Little House and Golden Girls is beyond me. But at the time it didn’t matter because Mad Hungry videos were available through the show archive on marthastewart.com. However at the start of the 2011 season – as we all know – the show archive was removed from the website, and the videos were no longer available.

I think Martha did a disservice to Lucinda (and I guess herself, as well, since she’s been canceled also)in airing Mad Hungry on Hallmark – MH and LSQ were in my opinion kept secret from how many people who don’t have access to the Hallmark Channel? I never understood the point of Martha going to Hallmark.

So many of us have become incredibly frustrated since the start of this current season regarding the show archive, videos, the tedious chore of finding recipes on the MH website, reruns… were our comments ever read by anyone?? I understand that LSQ can’t reply to all of the questions, but isn’t there someone who can? If someone had just replied several months ago and said “no, the videos aren’t coming back” or “we’re working on making recipes easier to find,” that would have eliminated a lot of the frustration. But our concerns were never addressed.

The cancellation is disappointing (although I have not even seen a single episode this season since the videos haven’t been available online – I’ve just been following along on the blog). Hopefully by now Lucinda has a big enough following to get out from under Martha’s wing and spread the Mad Hungry word on a network that reaches a wider audience.

Just my 2 cents…thanks for listening.

  • Jane m January 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm

I can’t believe that Foodnetwork or cooking Channel won’t be interested in picking up LSQ for her own show at some point. They’ve got a few real clunkers with shows right now that she could easily be a replacement for. Plus her unique approach to feeding a family economically with healthy and tasty food is very attractive to women and men trying to feed families with growing children.

  • Ellen January 4, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Bravo, JoAnn. It couldn’t have been said any better. I always felt Lucinda was so under the thumb of Martha. Lucinda needs to branch out. She has a following. I think jealousy was involved too. The great Lucinda will be just fine. Also, if Martha is going until April, there should be new Mad Hungry episodes to be filmed. Isn’t that true Ms. Stewart???? What’s fair is fair.

    Ellen

  • Ellen January 4, 2012 at 2:03 pm

Full agreement Jane M. Lucinda should be on the Food Network. You never know??

  • Joey January 4, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Really sorry that Mad Hungry is going to end. Lucinda is just the best and it’s just the beginning for her. It would be nice if Hallmark gave her another show. Ever since teacher/cook John Contratti appeared, I like so many others rallied to have him back on the show with all of our viewers comments. Why we were ignored is beyond all of us. Of all the guests, he received the most feedback than any other. Since the show, he’s gained quite a bit of attention. Maybe it’s time Hallmark had a new talk show with Ms. Quinn and Mr. Contratti. The guy seems to be surrounded by celebrities (he probably could get better guests than Martha) and with Lucinda and his cooking talents, a brand new talk show with a Regis and Kelly format might be just the right thing for the Hallmark Channel. Hallmark Channel should be smart and keep Lucinda Scala Quinn. Hallmark are you reading how much we adore the lady???

  • Carrie January 4, 2012 at 2:30 pm

    Lucinda,

You’re the best. I hope you are allowed to film some more episodes like “Martha”, before the show ends.

    Carrie

  • Paulette January 4, 2012 at 2:48 pm

JoAnn M. You are a very smart observer of the show. I feel many of my comments and others were completely ignored. So many of asked questions that were never answered. We requested the video archives back, nothing happened. We requested our favorite guest cook to return to the show, we were never acknowledged about that. Maybe if we were listened to, the people who loved the show so much, would have brought a bigger following to the program. We all took such interest in a program and were totally let down.

  • Kenny January 4, 2012 at 3:53 pm

    Hallmark Channel,

Keep Mad Hungry and Lucinda Scala Quinn. Don’t you know you have the best cooking show on the air.

    Kenny

    P.S. We love you Lucinda.

  • Kenny January 4, 2012 at 3:55 pm

Were our comments ever read, is the $64,000 question that has never been answered. We made it perfectly clear our love for Mad Hungry and what we wanted to see.

  • Tina January 4, 2012 at 7:37 pm

I just read that there are still talks about Emeril and Mad Hungry staying on Hallmark. Come on Mad Hungry. We are all pulling for you.

  • Tina January 4, 2012 at 7:38 pm

We love you Lucinda. Hallmark has to know they have a “class act” with you.

    Lucinda,

I’m not giving up yet. I want the Hallmark Channel to keep Mad Hungry so I can see you, your kids, your family and all your friends cook with you. I’ve been watching from Day 1. My fingers are crossed for you..

    Lucinda,

Please say everything I’m reading is not happening. You are such a part of my day. I love you and Mad Hungry. You’ve introduced us to your lovely family. You’ve taught me so much with your recipes. You introduced me to your teacher friend whose blog I now follow each day. I even bought the Spurdle. So please say Mad Hungry will continue. I’m a retired gentleman and this is one of the things I really enjoy.

    Lucinda,

I’m sure you see the love even through some of the frustration of some of the comments. I think when you invest time in a show, everyone wants to be heard. Hopefully things will work out and everything we all love about the show will continue.

    Happy New Year!

I’ve watched alot of cooking shows and I have to say MH was one of my favorites. I also love watching LSQ on PBS, I hope she is able to keep her show or get another one. I also have been frustrated because I haven’t been able to pull up recipes from the website I haven’t seen anything like that before.

  • Louise January 5, 2012 at 6:21 am

    Lucinda,

We’re not giving up on Mad Hungry. I hope Hallmark realizes how great a show Mad Hungry is. I have faith that you will soon tell us that you are filming new episodes.

I hope the big Martha does not have Lucinda wrapped up in some contract that she cannot do anything on her own in the future. I just discovered Mad Hungry a few weeks ago. Really bummed about her not returning. She comes across so naturally, with her family, just as though you are right there in the kitchen with her. Love watching her sons too. Martha should have taken a few lessons from Lucinda and loosened up, even made me uncomfortable watching Martha struggle through a show. You almost need a stiff drink to relax after watching a MS show.

I made the pork chops using iron skillet first time and did not tell my husband about the apple (he does not like “strange thing” in his food)used water instead of apple juice. Pork chops came out fork tender and very good.I made them few times since.
    I love the show.
    Thank you.
