Recipes from Today’s Show: July 4th BBQ

Published by

TODAY on MHTV: July 4th is this weekend and we are ready to celebrate! I’m basting grilled chicken with my homemade figgy bbq sauce—it’s a little sweet and a little sour and tastes great on all kinds of meat, not just chicken.  A from-scratch mayonnaise is an easy, all-purpose mix-in for potato salads, coleslaws, and more. For dessert, I’m making a patriotic icebox cake topped with fresh red and blue berries. More from the show.

I just picked up on your show last week. I have to tell you first that I hate cooking. I have a picky family while I would like to try new things they want traditional. I TIVO your show and then enjoy it in peace and quiet. I am going to try the banana fritters be use I think that is something they will like. I love banana bread from scratch in the winter time.
Thank you for the inspiration with just simple receipes, no fancy home grown herbs etc., some of us don’t grow all that. Love the show.

what about using shortbread cookies or pound cake vs. ‘nilla wafers
    for the Icebox cake?

I made the icebox cake yesterday and it turned out amazing. I took it to a friend’s house for a dinner party and it was a big hit. The only thing I changed is the amount of sugar used in the heavy cream. I used only 4 teaspoons and it was still quite sweet because of my strawberries. Thanks for this delicious and quick recipe. I will be preparing this for many future parties and gatherings at my house.
